Our parish has a number of annual activities that provide a wide variety of educational, outreach, social, and worship opportunities to become more involved in our community.
Through the Year
Annual Meeting. Please attend this important event. You will hear about the past year from the vestry and those who coordinate our outreach ministries, vote in the new vestry members, and thank all those who serve our church.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Help cook a supper of pancakes, or come to eat and socialize before Lent begins. Pancakes were a traditional meal to use up rich butter and eggs before the “lean” and solemn season of Lent.
Fall and Lent All-Ages Education. An all-ages evening of Christian education. Children’s education might be a movie, a service project like making Easter baskets for our homebound members, or a Godly Play lesson.
Intro to the Episcopal Church. Everything you ever wanted to know (that you can learn in the space of four weeks) about the Episcopal Church and our Anglican heritage.
Holy Week
Please join us for the whole journey of Holy Week to Easter:
- Palm Sunday — grand procession around the church building
- Tuesday — Stations of the Cross
- Wednesday — Tenebrae
- Maundy Thursday — Maundy Thursday liturgy
- Thursday night into Friday — Vigil at the Altar of Repose
- Good Friday — BCP liturgy for Good Friday; Stations for Children
- Saturday — The Great Vigil of Easter
- Easter Sunday — Festival Holy Eucharist
Fall
Stewardship Season. In the fall we begin praying about our leadership and financial commitments for the coming year. Parishioners are encouraged to offer their time, talent, and treasure for the work of God in our parish. We hear about the work different ministries are doing and share what’s most important to us in our giving.
All Saints Jazz Mass. Join us with the Rev. Norm and the CCW Jazz Band — sax, drums, and more. The saints go marching in! Since All Saints Sunday is always the first Sunday of November, we also have a children’s sermon that day.
Thanksgiving Basket Outreach
Each November we enthusiastically invite you to donate to Christ Church’s annual Thanksgiving basket outreach program. Recipients are families of Waltham Public School students who need extra support during the holidays. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask children to help with the shopping, or to donate some of their allowance to buy a canned good for a basket.
While all donations are gratefully appreciated, we strongly encourage donors to provide all of the following, so that baskets may be complete:
- $25 gift certificate from Hannaford or Market Basket (for a turkey or other main dish)
- 1 package muffin mix
- 1 can cranberry sauce
- 5 lbs potatoes
- 3 lbs sweet potatoes
- 3 cans green beans or corn
- 2 cans diced tomatoes
- 2 cans black beans
- 5 lbs rice
- 1 bag of onions
Donations can be left at the church until the Sunday before Thanksgiving, when we gather after Mass to assemble the baskets. Thank you for your generosity!
Advent & Christmas
Children’s Christmas Pageant. The entire parish is invited to enjoy the children telling the story of Christmas. Usually held on a Sunday before Christmas, the pageant is followed by a dinner for all in attendance.
