Our parish has a number of annual activities that provide a wide variety of educational, outreach, social and worship opportunities to become more involved in our community.
Please attend this important event. You will hear about the past year from the vestry and those who coordinate our outreach ministries. You will vote in the new vestry members and thank all those who serve our church.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
You can help cook supper of pancakes or come to eat and socialize before Lent begins. Pancakes were a traditional meal to use up the rich butter and eggs before the “lean” and solemn season of Lent begins.
Fall and Lent All Ages Education
We offer an all-ages evening of Christian education. Children’s education might consist of a movie, a service project like making Easter baskets for our homebound members, or a Godly Play lesson.
Holy Week Services
Please join us for the whole journey of Holy Week to end the Easter Season
Palm Sunday, Grand procession around the Church building
Tuesday, Stations of the Cross
Thursday, Maundy Thursday Liturgy
Thursday – Friday, Vigil at the Altar of Repose
Friday, BCP Liturgy for Good Friday
Friday, Stations for Children
Saturday, The Great Vigil of Easter
Easter Sunday, Festival Holy Eucharist
Easter Egg Hunt
In the spirit of Easter fun, we host an egg hunt on the grounds of the church immediately following the 10am Mass on Easter Sunday. This “hunt” is open to all children attending Mass and everyone is encouraged to bring their own baskets. One side of the lawn is dedicated to the little ones of the church (0-4 years) while the other side holds eggs for the older kids.
In order to keep this tradition alive, we ask all parents to donate a dozen filled eggs per child and we request help to put out eggs during Mass.
Intro Episcopal Church Class
Everything you ever wanted to know (that you can learn in the space of four weeks) about the Episcopal Church and our Anglican heritage.
Art and Talent Show
An event open to all! Please join us to place your art on display and show off your on stage talents: singing, dancing, gymnastics, music, skits, comedy acts, anything! Art pieces can be photos, paintings, sculptures, textiles, drawings, paper mache, anything! For those too shy to show off their skills, please join our audience as we appreciate the talents of one another.
Mother’s Day Walk for Peace
In collaboration with our diocesan “B-Peace” work, we walk through Dorchester in support of the Louis Brown Peace Institute’s work. Louis Brown Peace Institute has partnered with the Harvard School of Public Health in their Peace Zone Curriculum for middle and high school youth. They hold the Walk as an annual fundraiser for their work in in peace education and support for survivors of violence. Our regular services are held at 8:30 and 10, but all are encouraged to participate in the walk.
The late Bishop Shaw started B-SAFE: Bishop’s Summer Academic Fun Enrichment Program over ten years ago to provide a safe summer refuge for inner city children. About seven years ago, Christ Church made the decision to get involved and we chose to assist at St. Augustine in Roxbury. We often partner with All Saints Brookline to provide a full week of lunches and companionship. After lunch we spend about 30 minutes reading with the kids. On Fridays there is always a field trip. Our only responsibility is to provide lunch and have fun!
In the fall we begin praying about our leadership and financial commitments for the coming year. Parishioners are encouraged to offer their “Time, talent, and treasure” for the work of God in our parish. We hear about the work different ministries are doing and share what’s most important to us in our giving.
All Saints Jazz Mass
Our friend Steve Taddeo brings his jazz quartet with sax, drums, and more. The saints go marching in! Since All Saints Sunday is always the first Sunday of November, we also have a children’s sermon on that day.
Several CC members organize Thanksgiving baskets for families in need from the local Plympton School area. Each year we usually collect donations to make about 25 full Thanksgiving dinners with a gift card for a turkey and canned goods of all the holiday fixings.
Fieldstone Auction and Dinner
This is the traditional dinner with silent auction. You can simply enjoy dinner and socialize or help cook or serve dinner. Anyone in the parish is welcome to donate to the auction, from items they own to services and talents they can offer to others. We have had handmade crafts to computer tune ups to personal shoppers. This is one of the church’s biggest fundraisers of the year and both the dinner and auction are open to the general public.
Children’s Christmas Pageant
The entire parish is invited to enjoy the children telling the story of Christmas. Usually held on a Sunday before Christmas, the pageant is followed by a dinner for all in attendance.
