In the summer of 2014, we were approached by a local group seeking to start an environmental education program for students in Waltham. They had the teachers, the design, and the passion – we had the space. Our East lawn at that time hosted a bench by the bus stop, and not much else, so in a spirit of adventure we gave the go-ahead to begin the meadow. Meadowscaping for Biodiversity is an outdoor, project-based, environmental education program that provides middle school youth with real-world experiences in STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), while inspiring and empowering them to address challenges to the environment and human society. If you’re interested in having your scout group, afterschool, or other program find out more, please visit meadowmaking.org to be in touch with founders Barbara Passarero and Jean Devine.
