The Community Day Center of Waltham, a not-for-profit organization, is the only day shelter in the metro-west area. They provide a warm and welcoming place for the homeless and those who may feel alone and isolated. By building a trusting relationship with guests and providing them with access to services, they move beyond crisis and move toward self-sufficiency. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. In the winter months, they are also open in the morning from 7:30am to 9:00am. For more information, please visit their website at www.communitydaycenter.org.
Hours and Location
Once a month, volunteers from the Christ Church parish prepare and serve lunch at the Day Center. We began assisting the program with lunch in 2012. CC volunteers serve lunch on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:30-3:00pm.
The Community Day Center is located at 16 Felton St and volunteers can meet there.
Each month we request that one or two volunteers cook and serve food. If you would like to help serve, but cannot provide the meal, or can cook but are unable to serve, please let us know. We are often able to pair families together.
Volunteers are asked to prepare to feed 40 people during the winter months and closer to 25 in the summer. Appropriate meals include, but are not limited to, pizza, pasta, (spaghetti, mac & cheese, lasagna), sandwiches, soups, and stews. Many guests don’t have access to dental care, so crunchy or spicy foods are to be avoided.
Day of: Bring the food to the day center and stay to serve…then socialize and enjoy the company.
Our volunteers are coordinated by Anna Jones. With questions or for more information, Anna is available via email at email@example.com. You may also call the church office and leave a message.
For more information about the shelter itself, please contact Marilyn Lee-Tom, the director of the Center, at 781-392-6311.
